Bangladesh is an independent country. It became independent from Pakistan in 1971. Our liberation war started on 26 March in 1971. It lasted for nine months. People of all walks of life joined the war. Their target was to save the country. To defend (রক্ষা করা) the country they sacrificed their lives smilingly. They did not run away showing their backs. But our people suffered much during the Liberation War. The Pakistani army killed numerous (অনেক) people whether they are old, women or children. They had to flee (ভাগা) from the towns and take shelter in the villages. Any moment, the soldiers would come and torture in search of freedom fighters. Many women in our country were raped. People did not receive emergency medical care. Didn't get government service either. liberation roads, drains, bridges and houses were destroyed. Intellectuals (বুদ্ধিজীবী) were also killed brutally. Many people had to go without food for days. Many have not seen their loved ones for months. The family man who promised to come back never came back. The little child lost his father. Old father lost his son. Husband lost his wife. There are countless stories of loss that may never end. People lived in fear for nine long months. But with a hope that we will be free. That was their real desire. Despite suffering so much, no one stopped. They tried their best to reach the final goal. Finally, that goal has been achieved. After enduring thousands of hardships, we have seen the sunrise of independence. This earnest desire ultimately made us free. Every generation must know, must be told, that the main heroes of this glorious Liberation War are the people of this country.

বাংলাদেশ একটি স্বাধীন দেশ। ১৯৭১ সালে পাকিস্তান থেকে স্বাধীন হয়। আমাদের মুক্তিযুদ্ধ শুরু হয় ১৯৭১ সালের ২৬ মার্চ। তা চলেছিল নয় মাস। সর্বস্তরের মানুষ যুদ্ধে যোগ দেয়। তাদের লক্ষ্য ছিল দেশকে বাঁচানো। দেশকে রক্ষা করতে তারা হাসিমুখে জীবন উৎসর্গ করেছেন। তারা পিঠ দেখিয়ে পালিয়ে যায়নি। কিন্তু মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সময় আমাদের জনগণ অনেক কষ্ট পেয়েছে। পাকিস্তানি সেনারা বৃদ্ধ, মহিলা বা শিশু বহু মানুষকে হত্যা করেছে। তাদের শহর ছেড়ে গ্রামে আশ্রয় নিতে হয়েছিল। যে কোনো মুহূর্তে সৈন্যরা এসে মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের খোঁজে নির্যাতন চালাবে। আমাদের দেশে অনেক নারী ধর্ষিত হয়েছে। মানুষ জরুরি চিকিৎসা সেবা পায়নি। সরকারি চাকরিও পাননি। মুক্তির রাস্তা, ড্রেন, ব্রিজ, বাড়িঘর ধ্বংস করা হয়। বুদ্ধিজীবীদেরও নির্মমভাবে হত্যা করা হয়। অনেককে দিন না খেয়ে থাকতে হয়েছে। অনেকেই কয়েক মাস ধরে তাদের প্রিয়জনকে দেখেননি। যে পরিবারের লোকটি ফিরে আসার প্রতিশ্রুতি দিয়েছিল সে আর ফিরে আসেনি। ছোট্ট শিশুটি তার বাবাকে হারিয়েছে। ছেলেকে হারিয়েছেন বৃদ্ধ বাবা। স্ত্রীকে হারিয়ে স্বামী। ক্ষতির অজস্র গল্প আছে যা শেষ নাও হতে পারে। দীর্ঘ নয় মাস মানুষ আতঙ্কে দিন কাটাচ্ছে। তবে একটা আশা নিয়ে আমরা মুক্ত হব। এটাই ছিল তাদের আসল ইচ্ছা। এত কষ্ট করেও কেউ থামেনি। চূড়ান্ত লক্ষ্যে পৌঁছানোর সর্বোচ্চ চেষ্টা করেছে তারা। অবশেষে সেই লক্ষ্য অর্জিত হয়েছে। হাজারো কষ্ট সহ্য করে আমরা দেখেছি স্বাধীনতার সূর্যোদয়। এই আন্তরিক ইচ্ছা শেষ পর্যন্ত আমাদের মুক্ত করেছে। প্রতিটি প্রজন্মকে জানতে হবে, বলতে হবে, এই গৌরবময় মুক্তিযুদ্ধের মূল নায়করা এদেশের মানুষ।
