of their own. A rickshaw driver rents a
rickshaw in the morning or in the afternoon in exchange for a certain amount of money from the owner of the rickshaw. Then he went down the street in search of passengers. In all weathers, whether it is good or bad, he is seen carrying passengers. Apart from carrying people, he carries goods.

যে ব্যক্তি রিকশা চালিয়ে জীবিকা নির্বাহ করেন তাকে রিকশাচালক বলা হয়। একজন রিকশাচালক ছোট-বড় যেকোনো শহরেরই একজন পরিচিত ব্যক্তি। এগুলি সাধারণত বাংলাদেশ, ভারত এবং থাইল্যান্ডের মতো দেশে পাওয়া যায়। অধিকাংশ রিকশাচালকের নিজস্ব রিকশা নেই। একজন রিকশাচালক সকালে বা বিকেলে রিকশা মালিকের কাছ থেকে নির্দিষ্ট পরিমাণ টাকার বিনিময়ে রিকশা ভাড়া নেন। এরপর রাস্তায় নেমে যান যাত্রীর খোঁজে। ভালো বা খারাপ সব আবহাওয়াতেই তাকে যাত্রী বহন করতে দেখা যায়। মানুষ বহন ছাড়াও তিনি মালামাল বহন করেন। আজকাল কিছু রিকশাচালককে স্কুলের বাচ্চাদের নিয়ে যেতে দেখা যায়। এটি তাদের একটি স্থায়ী আয় দেয়। সারাদিন অসংখ্য বাস, ট্রাক ও গাড়ি চলাচলকারী ব্যস্ত শহরে রিকশাচালকের কাজ খুবই ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ। তাকে সব সময় খুব সাবধানে রিকশা চালাতে হয়। তিনি সকালে বা গভীর রাতে রিকশা চালান। একজন রিকশাচালক খুবই গরিব মানুষ। তার জীবন দুঃখ-কষ্টে পরিপূর্ণ। সে শান্তি ও সুখ ভোগ করতে পারে না। পরিবারকে ভরণপোষণ দিতে হিমশিম খাচ্ছেন তিনি। হাত থেকে মুখে বাঁচতে হয় তাকে। সে তার পরিবারকে ঠিকমতো খাবার, শিক্ষা, ওষুধ দিতে পারে না। শহরের একটি বস্তিতে থাকেন তিনি। কঠোর পরিশ্রম করলেও সে তার ভাগ্য পরিবর্তন করতে পারে না। একজন রিকশাচালক অমানবিক জীবনযাপন করে, আমাদের সবসময় তাদের সাথে ভাল ব্যবহার করা উচিত।
